Feeling burned over a cause for concern (Herald Sun) I'VE proved it often: The Age won't tell the full facts on global warming. Now its own reporters admit they were forced to be biased.

The brighter side of $115 a barrel crude

Posted on April 16, 2008 in What is global warming

While George Bush attempts to distract the U.S. from doing anything substantive on climate change, an interesting thing is happening in Europe -- the price of carbon emission permits [EUAs] has hit a ten-month high. The reason: high oil and gas prices. The EU ETS is dominated by power utilities, which must hold EUA permits for every ton of carbon dioxide (CO2) emitted when burning fuel to generate power. Most fossil fuel generators burn either coal or gas. When the price of gas rises, it mak The Deniers? This is a joke, right? According an anonymous White House official, President Bush is urging a halt to CO2 emission growth by 2025. Notwithstanding the facts that a) halting emissions increase by 2025 won't do the job, and b) he's waited until he's got nine months left in office to propose anything on global warming, this is one of the funniest articles I've read all year. How Global Warming Could Cause An Ice Age?

An Ice Age brought on by global warming was the scenario depicted in the movie THE DAY AFTER TOMORROW. While the science on which the movie based has been called into question, there may be some merit in the theory that global warming could cause an Ice Age. The world’s oldest recorded tree is a 9,550 year old spruce in the Dalarna province of Sweden. The spruce tree has shown to be a tenacious survivor that has endured by growing between erect trees and smaller bushes in pace with the dramatic climate changes over time. Across the world a crisis is unfolding at alarming speed. Climate change, China's increasing consumption and the dash for biofuels are causing food shortages and rocketing prices - sparking riots in cities from the Caribbean to the Far East. Biofuels: a blueprint for the future? Our cars and other forms of transport are the third-largest source of carbon dioxide emissions in the UK and the only one likely to have increased by 2020. Any serious attempt to tackle climate change requires us to dramatically step up our efforts to reduce these emissions.

The Power of Inference

There are a few men out there who have never had the misfortune of watching competitive ice skating. This first part is for them. There is a move all skaters do during a spin. They bring their arms in close to their bodies and lo! and behold, the rate of spin increases. There is an explanation in physics having to do with angular momentum and center of mass, and a formula here. Perhaps that formula doesn't completely explain it. It's true though. I don't skate much but I did a similar thing once Five Lost Cities Of The Future With the advent of climate change, droughts and rising sea levels, Environmental Graffiti takes a look at which American cities the archaelogists and anthropologists might be looking at in a few hundred years.
